Spring 2020 examines the influence of the early twentieth century garden designers and their innovative use of natural wild planting – pushing the boundaries of style just as their artistic and literary counterparts of the Aesthetic Movement also did. See: Interior design trends – top looks for the year ahead This season, Designers Guild have delved into the garden to celebrate two legendary founders of quintessential English country garden design, Gertrude Jekyll and William Robinson. Together, Jekyll and Robinson cultivated the use of natural wild planting and created some of England’s most imaginative and dynamic garden scenes. Most notably those of Gravetye Manor, Sussex, where much of their inspiration has been derived from this season.
Grandiflora rose
A celebration of spring flowers – this beautiful floral cotton fabric is digitally printed in two joyful colourways on durable, brushed cotton. Inspired by plants woman Gertrude Jekyll and her vivid planting schemes that sought to present garden design as an art form. Yulan

Glasshouse
A contemporary geometric pattern overlaid with a unique block technique in dynamic embroidery. A modern design inspired by the botanical gardens beloved by the Aesthetic Movement at the fin de siècle. This design is embroidered onto a cotton linen ground for tailored curtains, blinds and cushions.
Sepia flower

Jardin chinois
Distinctive brushstrokes create layered leaves on a paint-speckled ground to illustrate an atmospheric bamboo garden. Combining contemporary touches and tones with elements of classical brushwork, this decorative design is influenced by the ornamental style of nineteenth-century Asian art which was much revered by aesthetes, artists and influential thinkers of the time. Parterre geo
Inspired in part by the elegant symmetry of the century old kitchen Garden at Gravetye Manor, this complex, geometric pattern features blocks of undulating colour, speckled coolly with paint. Maple trees

Hollyhock
A mainstay of the English country garden border, the Hollyhock was fundamental to William Robinson’s planting design. Delightful delphiniums, hollyhocks and foliage are brought to life via intricate embroidery on a versatile cotton linen ground, for a design that truly captivates. This floral design feels timeless in tones of ochre and celadon, a perfect fabric for curtains, cushions and blinds.
Tulip garden
